What are you interested in media/music?
My interests in music are quite particular. I tend to not listen to mainstream music as it just doesn't appeal to me. In terms of media i am quite interested in all aspects of media. If i had to pin point my primary focus it terms of the production of media then it would definitely have to be the post - production process, editing in particular. I would love to learn how to master all of the adobe programs as i find then very entertaining. There is a lot you can do with the simplest of tools which makes it really fun to learn. Besides my interest in film, my pleasure lies in playing Video games. I've been playing games for most of my life really and have become addicted to it. My favourite game of all time has to be Overwatch. Despite the comparisons to other popular games prior to it Overwatch ranks #1. There is such a wide variety of different characters that all have different personalities and a wide range of abilities that make them all unique in their own way.
In terms of music my interests are quite difficult to single down into one genre. I don't tend to like music based on the genre, i decide by listening and decide whether it’s good or not. Despite this fact, i do have some genres that I’m quite fond of, for example, i tend to listen to rap quite a bit. Personally, i find genres such as grime and trap somewhat boring as you tend to find that many of the songs all have a very similar sound and feel to them. But then again, you get the occasional songs that really stand out - these are the songs i like. I also listen to non - English songs as well (mostly Japanese and Korean). One famous band that i listen to is BTS. I’ve recently become interested in the rap genre, listening to artist such as Logic, XXXTENTACION and Jaden Smith. I find their music to be very motivating and nice to listen too. The unique beat matched up to their voice works perfectly.

What did you do last year for your foundation portfolio?
In media last year we worked on planning and producing our own opening sequence. Before this process we were required to learn more about the fundamentals of film. This meant that we needed to learn about what makes a film. In order to obtain this knowledge we conducted extensive research on many different aspects of film, some of which include genre, representations, film theories and key ingredients. Using this information we then had to analyse multiple opening sequences in order to show we had an understanding of what makes an opening sequence.
Once the main research side of things had been complete (although we still continued to do some research after) we then started to plan our own opening sequence. The first task we had was to obviously come up with an initial idea. As a group we came up with the narrative and plot. Once we did this, we went more in depth with how we wanted to film to look, for example, visual style, character representation and genre. Once we had a basic idea of what we wanted for our opening sequence we then pitched it to our peers in order to receive some feedback. With this feedback we got we were able to make adjustments to our idea in order to improve the quality of the film idea. After this we conducted a survey that was sent out to our peers. We did this to get an understanding of what our target audience was going to be and to also see what sounded most appealing to the audience. After, we then proceeded to type up our screenplay. This was quite a significant process as it would be our guide for the final piece. We then began to think more about the aesthetics of our film as we begun to think about our production ideas, logo design and title design. Using the knowledge we gained from analysing other productions, logos and typography we were able to create a professional looking production design using my Photoshop skill.
Before we went on to start filming the final product we first went for a test run by filming a rough cut. We did this in order to see how our film would turn out. Once we had completed our rough cut, filmed and edited, we then critically analysed our own sequence in order to improve for the final product. We also got criticism from our audience in order to get an outside perspective. It was now time to start filming the final thing and one problem that we had was that we were quite unorganized. Some actors weren't available on certain day which stopped us in our tracks as we didn't ask prior. In order to combat our problem we created a shooting schedule which was sent to the whole crew (including actors). From this we made sure that we worked around the availability of our actors in order to make the most of the time we had. During the filming process we created update vlogs and talked about how the film was going and we also created a production diary in which we talked about what we did day by day.
Once the film had been 100% complete, we begun the evaluation. This required us to answer multiple questions regarding our final piece. The questions were:

Once the film had been 100% complete, we begun the evaluation. This required us to answer multiple questions regarding our final piece. The questions were:
- In what was does your media product use, develop or challenge codes and conventions of real media products?
- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
- Who would be the audience for your media product?
- How did you attract/address your audience?
- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
What have you been asked to do for your advanced portfolio this year?
This year we have been asked to create a promotional package. This includes creating a music video, a digipak and a promotional website for the artist.
This year we have been asked to create a promotional package. This includes creating a music video, a digipak and a promotional website for the artist.
What do you understand by promotional package?
A promotional package is a way of attracting a target audience through the use of different media products. The point of a promotional package is to make yourself heard. In order to do this you need to give the audience a taste of what you have to offer which may require a lot of thought. This is due to the fact that your prom pack can also be sent to record labels. in order to create a successful promo pack you should include your own style and think about who you are trying to sell yourself too.
